You will be interested in the behaviour of the natural world, the laws governing how the universe works and how those laws can be applied to solve problems. You will be confident using mathematics and have the determination and stamina to tackle a difficult subject. Many physics students go on to study physics and engineering at university and progress into a wide variety of jobs where a technical, analytical or problem solving mind is required. The fundamental ideas of physics, matter, force and energy, are the basis of all other sciences and most of our modern technologies. You will study quantum phenomena, electricity, mechanics materials, waves, fields, energy, nuclear and thermal physics. You will gain experimental and problem solving skills alongside your theoretical knowledge and understanding. You will be taught through a variety of methods including experiential, hands-on laboratory work, demonstration, small group and one-to-one discussions, problem solving exercises and examination preparation. To study physics at this level you need to have a grade B or better in GCSE mathematics and a grade B or better in GCSE physics or a grade B or better in GCSE additional science. You are advised to study AS mathematics alongside physics; if you do not then you must study AS use of mathematics.
