You will wish to gain a grade C or above in this subject as you know that you will need this qualification in order to progress in further or higher education or in employment. Most students on this course will be taking the opportunity to improve on a previous grade. You will study and write essays on the way language is used in a novel and on TV. You will develop your writing skills, from stories and description to letters and reports. You will develop your reading and analytic skills, comparing the ways language is used in non-fiction texts such as leaflets and opinion articles. There will be the opportunity to build confidence in your spoken English as well as improve the accuracy of your spelling and punctuation. To study English at GCSE level you will ideally have achieved a grade D in GCSE English, but you may be accepted on to this course if you have the potential to gain a grade C or above and have not had the opportunity to sit the exam previously.
