Learners will complete both a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Public Services (Uniformed) and a Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Law. The combined qualification provides the knowledge, understanding and skills for learners wishing to enter a career in Public Service law enforcement or legal representation. Progression onto higher education to specialise in Law would be seen as a natural advancement for students on successful completion. The course will give learners a breadth of experience to equip them for the world of work. Course Content The programme consists of various units each carrying 5, 10 or 15 credits; a total of 180 credits must be achieved to successfully complete the qualification. Year 1 Containing 8 mandatory units 1. Dispute Solving in the Legal System (10) 2. Understanding Law Making (10) 3. Aspects of Legal Liability (10) 4. Government Policies (10) 5. Leadership & Teamwork in the Public Services (15) 6. Citizenship, Diversity and the Public Services (15) 7. Physical Preparation, Health & Lifestyle (10) 8. Police Powers (5) 9. Understanding Behaviour (5) Year 2 Containing 5 mandatory units 1. Unlawful Homicide & Police Powers (10) 2. Aspects of Property Offences & Police Powers (10) 3. Law of TORT (10) 4. Understanding Discipline in the Uniformed Services (10) 5. Custodial Care Services (10) 6. Security Procedures in the Public Services (10) 7. Fitness Testing & Training for Uniformed Services (10) 8. Responding to Emergency Service Incidents (10) 9. Communication & Technology in the Uniformed Public Services (10) Visits and visiting speakers are also an integral part of the course.
