The aim of this course is to provide vocational training so that learners may progress to further education or employment within health and social care. Course Content The course consists of college work and work experience in a variety of care settings. The subjects studied are: 1. Communication in Health & Social Care 2. Individual Rights within Health & Social Care Sectors 3. Individual Needs in Health & Social Care Sectors 4. Ensuring Safe Environments in Health & Social Care 5. Human growth and Development 6. Human Physiology 7. Vocational Experience 8. Cultural Diversity 9. Functional Skills English & Maths Practical Training Students will spend a minimum of 60 hours in placement (usually one day per week for half a year) within a variety of care settings, such as schools, nurseries or elderly residential care homes, to develop their practical skills and understanding of health and social care practice. Additional Qualifications All students will study Functional Skills English and Maths. There may be the opportunity for learners who obtained a D at GCSE English, science or maths to retake the GCSE. English & Maths We are committed to helping students improve their skills in English and maths. Students on a full-time course at College who missed out on GCSE qualifications at grades A-C in these subjects at school will attend additional classes and receive support to enhance their grades. Depending on individual ability, students will work towards GCSE, City & Guilds or Functional Skills awards to ensure that they have the qualifications needed to progress to university or employment.
