The BTEC Level 2 Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It introduces you to employment in an animal care environment and provides a good basis to go onto a more advanced work-related qualification Course Content The course is divided into four core units: 1. Undertake Work Related Experience in the Land-based Industries 2. Maintain Animal Health and Welfare 3. Undertake Practical Animal Feeding 4. Maintain Animal Accommodation And THREE of the specialist units: 1. Introduction to the Principles and Practices of Animal Behaviour and Handling 2. Understanding the Basic Principles of Animal Biology 3. Contribute to the Nursing of Animals Assessment You will be assessed through continuous assignment work using a variety of methods including some work based experience/placements. We want to help ALL students to WORK TOWARDS Level 2 qualifications in these subjects, regarded as vital for employment and further study. Whatever your specialist subject, we guarantee that you will have the opportunity and all the support that you need to boost your qualifications in English and Maths. Students on a Level 2 course at College WILL choose an intensive study option in English or Maths. WHEN you do that, you will also be able to improve your skills in the other subject while you are at College. If you are following a Level 3 course at Stafford College and missed out on a qualification in English or Maths at school, we'll make it possible for you to take catch-up classes to ensure you have the qualifications you need to progress onto university or into the workplace.

Entry requirements

An initial course fee of £40 will be charged at the start of the year. This will cover transport, entry costs and overheads for the practical elements and opportunities presented by the course. As this is a practical based course it will be necessary to buy a pair of steel toe capped work boots (costing about £25 from most work wear manufacturers).
